The heat map shows when bat activity occurred across your survey, plotted by date and hour of night. Each cell represents a one-hour window on a given night, with the number inside indicating how many recordings with detections were captured during that time. Darker cells indicate higher activity levels.
Use the toggle in the top right to change the time scale:
Night — shows each individual survey night, giving the most granular view of activity patterns.
Week — groups activity by week, useful for identifying trends across longer surveys.
Month — groups activity by month, giving a high-level overview of seasonal patterns.
The heat map is particularly useful for:
Identifying peak activity hours across your survey
Spotting patterns in nightly bat behaviour
Comparing activity levels across different nights or time periods
Identifying nights with unusually high or low detection rates
Hover over any cell to see a breakdown of that hour, including the total number of detections and a species distribution summary.
