How to use the histogram in reports

The histogram gives you a visual breakdown of bat detections across all devices in your survey. Each bar represents a device, colour-coded by species category, so you can quickly compare activity levels and species distribution at a glance.

Use the toggle in the top right to switch between:

  • Total — the overall number of detections recorded per device

  • Mean / night — the average number of detections per device per night, useful for comparing devices across surveys of different lengths

Each bar is colour-coded by species category:

  • Long-tailed — high-confidence long-tailed bat detections

  • Short-tailed — high-confidence short-tailed bat detections

  • Possible LT — low-confidence long-tailed bat detections

  • Possible ST — low-confidence short-tailed bat detections

  • Unknown bat — detections identified as bat but not classified to species

This makes it easy to identify which devices recorded the most activity, which locations had the greatest species diversity, and whether detections were concentrated in specific areas of your survey.
