Before using your AR5 for the first time, you need to follow the following steps.
Step #1. Open the unit
Unscrew the metal locking ring and remove the plastic case to access the screen and battery compartment.
Step #2. Install the clock battery (supplied)
Insert the CR1220 battery into the small metal clip to the top left of the LCD screen.
Step #3. Install batteries
Insert 4 x AA batteries.
Step #4. Insert SD card
Insert a formatted SD card into the SD slot on the right side of the LCD screen.
Step #5. Download “Alato Configurator” app
Complete setup in the app, allowing it to automatically set the date and time.
Configure the following:
Start Time — When to begin recording.
Duration — How long to record (not the end time).
Protocol — Acoustic settings for your target species (e.g. bats, kiwi, bittern).
GPS — Logging mode: Log, Log and Sync, or Off.
Step #6. Tap to load Configuration
Place your phone against the device’s NFC point to load the configuration.
iPhone: Hold the top edge of your phone near the NFC point on the device.
Android: NFC location varies by model (usually the back centre or near the top), so adjust position if needed.
